A key area of focus is the repurposing of the 5th quarter of the carcass: from nutrient-rich products for human consumption, to protein-dense formulations for animal feed, and organic solutions for soil regeneration. We also develop innovative hybrid products that combine meat with plant-based ingredients—such as sausages, burger patties, and minced or extended mince options. Through strategic carcass utilisation models, we transform abattoirs and processing plants into profitable value centres.

Eben van Tonder is a specialist in meat science with over 15 years of experience in protein research and functional ingredient development. He began his career in Cape Town, founding a bacon company that sparked his deep focus on functional meat solutions. His work expanded into Nigeria, tackling challenges such as limited fat access and poor-quality raw materials like PSE pork and DFD beef. Eben approaches every project as an experienced meat plant manager, with his feet firmly planted in the practical realities of factory environments.

By applying innovative approaches to protein behavior, he has helped create high-quality products like hams and pastrami from even the most difficult meat inputs. His focus has always been on practical, affordable solutions tailored to African conditions.

A strategic partnership was set up in Austria, which has since expanded the company’s functional range and brought cutting-edge technology into production. Origins Global Meats continues to drive innovation in the meat industry.
